Over the weekend I had a browse of the Marks and Spencer website and was reminded of their stylish ‘Limited Collection’ shirts. I was impressed enough by what I saw to go out and buy one. If you’re in the market for a new slim fit stylish shirt, I’d recommend checking out these two good shirts from Marks and Spencer…
Here’s the Limited Collection White Pure Cotton Poplin Shirt.
Poplin is a highly underused fabric. This very finely woven cotton gives a lovely smooth ‘hand’ (the way it feels) and is lightweight unlike other types of weave, such as Oxford weave. The fabric is very slightly see-through, because of the fine threads but it’s not too transparent. This shirt, however, is also available in black here.
Two buttons on the sleeve placket and a nice corner cut-away on the cuff, although there is only one button on the cuff, which is disadvantageous if you have narrow wrists.
It would have been nice to see an option with a button-down collar but this is designed to be a classic shirt; some details have been left out.
And here’s the second shirt, the one I bought: The Slim Fit Limited Collection Cotton Rich Button-Down shirt that comes with a free knit tie!
Here’s the key to the ‘slim fit’ - gathering at the back of the shirt. This shirt is not made from poplin cotton but is very light weight. The cotton fabric is very fine and airy - perfect for hot weather.
One feature that you can’t see in these images is the detail on the inside of the placket, sleeve placket and hem at the bottom: There’s a dark blue stripe added in these areas which really works. The addition of a free retro-styled, square bottomed navy tie is a total bonus - it completes the look.
Both of these shirts are £25 each. For reliable Marks and Spencer quality shirts with a modern, clean and sharp style, it’s a good price. Find them as part of the Limited Collection here.
Thanks to Marks and Spencer for the images.
